What's Pippa doing? Check in with Scratch's grouchy cactus mouse.
Pippa is our shop pet. She's a reverse pinto African Pygmy Hedgehog.
She came to us from Granite State Hedgehogs in the middle of a snowstorm.
Her birthday is December 19th, 2016. (she loves mealworms, if you want to send her a birthday present!)
1. What does she eat?
Mostly cat kibble. Hedgehogs are opportunistic omnivores, so we also drop veggies and the occasional bit of chicken or hardboiled egg in her dish. She likes crunchy dried mealworm treats, because she's gross.
2. Where is she / Why does she sleep so much?
Hedgehogs are nocturnal, so she's probably in her tree stump. She might also be burrowed under her fleece. If you see a little potato-shaped lump anywhere, that's our girl.
3. Does she really play with those toys?
Sure, sometimes. She pretends she doesn't like them, but we know she does.
4. How did you teach her to use a wheel?
She figured it out naturally. Hedgehogs run 4 to 7 miles a night in the wild, so she's go-go-go all night long! (Definitely not a pet you'd want to have in your bedroom, unless you're a very heavy sleeper!)
5. Does she ever come out of her cage?
Absolutely! We get her out for evening events, and she makes special guest appearances at birthday parties. She also gets to run around the store when it's quiet. We'll get her out to say hi if you stop by during the day, but we don't usually let her run around then, because she'll just find a corner and go back to sleep.
6. That's a lot of poop.
We know. Oh boy, do we know.
